Showbiz's Next Stars in Louis Vuitton - PREVIEW October 2011 Cover

Preview's October 2011 issue is very special to me. Two of my long-time dreams came true. First, because it's my frist PREVIEW cover. I has been my dream, from the first time I bought a copy of the magazine, to do a cover for them. It has been one of my biggest goals as a photographer ever since. The second dream, another long-time dream, is that they included me in 2011's Creative It List(!!!) It also contains one of my favorite editorials, with my favorite girls (click here to see UNCUT VERSION)! BIG BIG THANKS TO THE PREVIEW TEAM!

It's a great coincidence that that first issue of Preview that I ever bought, June 2005 (featuring "Television's Brightest Young Stars' with Anne Curtis, Bea Alonzo, Iza Calzado back when they were starting out), would be the same as my first for the magazine!!! This time with the new batch of young stars and one of them is Anne's younger sister, Jasmine Curtis-Smith. To top it off they were wearing one of my favorite Louis Vuitton collections, flown in for the shoot. I was very emotional (I know, gross haha, but seriously I really was) when I found out I was doing this. I really couldn't believe it. To me, it's like coming full circle. Mayganon??

The cover was NOT originally a double cover, it was supposed to be one continuous gatefold cover, but at the last minute, they had to shuffle the blocking cause there was a miscommunication with the Advertising Department (they thought it was a double cover so they sold two ads). In fact, the gatefold cover was already laid-out with cover blurbs and all, ready for printing, before they found out about the Advertising Department-miscommunication. I have a copy of the original one, and I would really really LOVE to post it, but I can't (yes, I tried asking permission for this blog), so we have to respect the corporate rules :)

Shamcey Supusp, The New Queen (METRO November 2010 Cover, Editorial + BTS)

A very memorable shoot! The security was BANANAS, there were about 20 police officers in 5 police cars, and another vehicle with members of the SWAT Team (really!) all courtesy of Manila's Office of the Mayor! None of us (even the Metro team) expected that much security! We were outnumbered! Haha!

Michealle Torres, Metro's amazing EIC, had this idea that since our covergirl Shamcey is a licensed Architect (she topped the 2011 Board Exams!) she wanted her in front of Old Manila's grandest architecture. So we shot in three different locations (four supposedly, but we had problems with the Manila Cathedral permit), Fort Bonifacio in Intramuros, Department of Tourism building, and Casa Manila's courtyard! Two locations for a one-day shoot is already unusual for shoots here, but three seemed crazy! Talk about logistics! The sun was so intense, but Shamcey was a trooper! In the end, everything turned out great! I LOVE how everything turned out!

Trivia: This is also my second cover with actor Coco Martin as the subject. The first time we worked together being my first cover ever, which was just last April! Felt like ages already! This is also my friend Adrianne Concepcion's first cover story :)

I saw it in Cheska's iPad a few days ago and it's amazing! Lots of great features. I also found out it's actually the first of it's kind here in the country :)

Atom Araullo (ROGUE Magazine June 2010)

The moment I found out I was going to shoot for Rogue, I went nuts! I've been big fan of Rogue since the time I got my first issue, which was the Jasmine Maierhofer cover (December 2006/January 2007). Basta, I was suuuper excited!

Without further ado, here's the first assignment I shot for them, featuring journalist Atom Araullo. It's part feature, part fashion editorial. It's the first of that sort that I've done!







TRIVIA: (1) the instamatic Minolta camera (left) is mine, I got it from the Anonas ukay ukay, a about 3 years ago. (2) the vintage bicycle (right) is owned by fashion designer Ziggy Savella! It's the same one used in Garage Magazine's June/July 2010 Cover :)

Chalk Magazine April 2010 Cover

April few by so quickly! I haven't posted any of my published work from April and March! I'll start posting them this week when I get the layouts from the magazines :)

Anyway, here's my first cover EVER! They had booked me for the shoot a month before, but they didn't tell me I was going to shoot the cover until two days before the shoot! Haha! Thanks Chalk! Always a pleasure working with you guys!

Memoirs of a Geisha (Velvet Tribute to the Oscars Photo Exhibit 2010)

This was our entry for the Velvet Tribute to the Oscars Photo Exhibit, which is now on it's 2nd year. I was surprised when they asked me to join this year, thanks Velvet!

The inspiration is a simple, classic portrait that would showcase the characters and their emotions. Even with the post I only used techniques that could be done back in the day, such as brightness/contrast, dodge and burn, except for airbrushing lol. I didn't even touch Kim's face. She's just naturally beautiful!

However, I think people at Velvet were not pleased with the outcome as they were expecting something more extravagant. A few days after I submitted the photos, they told me that if I wanted to add something more to the photo, I can still do and submit a photo of with the changes. Of course, I said "No, that's the final photo :)" I completely understand where they're coming from, though.

As expected we didn't win any awards during the launch party at Ayala Museum. But the best part of the night happened just as I was about to leave. Bianca (she styled the Phantom of the Opera entry) told me that Mark Nicdao told her that Memoirs was his favorite entry. I was like, NO WAY! She was like, YES WAY! And then she introduced me to Mark. I couldn't believe it. Mark Nicdao! He's one of my idols! With that, I went home feeling like I won something :)

All the entries are available for the viewing public from March 5 to 12 at Greenbelt 3 and from March 13 to 20 at Eastwood Mall.
